Our October meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 5 at 10 am, and is open to any mother in the Northfield area. As with all of our events, kids are welcome and expected. At this meeting, Erica Staab from the HOPE Center in Faribault will be speaking about how to recognize and report domestic violence. We have a busy calendar full of activities that the kids and moms will enjoy! Our book club will be discussing Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, we are headed to Thorn Crest Farm's annual fall festival, we'll be taking the kids on a fall nature walk at the Carleton Arboretum, for MOMS Night Out we're trying out Northfield's newest restaurant, Tokyo Grill, and more!

Our March calendar just came out and we have a lot of fun things going on. MOMS Night Out is at Chapati this month - one of my favorite Northfield restaurants. We're going to the New Buffet Restaurant for lunch bunch, having a few play dates, meeting at Caribou for a little morning coffee break with the kids, and taking a trip to Chuck E Cheese.

For our March meeting we are trying something new - a bake-off! If you are so inclined, bake something delicious and bring some to the meeting. There will be voting and a prize for the winner. No time or desire to bake? That's okay, you can still come to the meeting with your kids and take part in the voting.

Baby, It's Cold Outside! Winter Activities for Kids in Northfield, MN

As I write this the temperature sits at a cold 20 degrees. We should be thankful, at least, that that's above zero.

I have a toddler who is too young to play outside, which means many days none of the other kids get to play outside, either. But January was filled with things to do with the MOMS Club! We had play dates, met at the YMCA's Wiggles and Giggles program, had lunch at Culver's (gotta love the free custard at the end of the meal for the kids) and some of us moms met up at the Contented Cow for trivia night and placed a respectable third.

A special thank you to Rodney Oto, the Associate Dean of Admissions and Director of Student Financial Services at Carleton College, for coming to our January meeting to discuss saving for our children's future college educations.

Coming up for February:

Our monthly meeting is Wednesday, February 2 at 10 am at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. "Meeting" is kind of a misnomer - it's more of a play date where the moms also talk about events for our group as well as special topics. For February we're talking about being green, and what we do as moms to live a greener life. Non-members are welcome to come to any meetings to check us out! We're also having a Valentine's party, a game night for MOMS Night Out, book club play date (kids play, moms discuss a book - Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins this month), coffee break at James Gang Coffeehouse, lunch bunch at The Hideaway, and a play date.

October Fall Party for Everyone - MOMS Club of Northfield

Bring your kids, family, friends, neighbors and their kids to the Northfield Public Library on Tuesday, October 12 for some fall time fun! We've reserved the library meeting room on the first floor to meet in. There will be a craft, food, toys, music and conversation. Come out and meet other moms and kids instead of just passing each other at Target, Cub and at the parks!

This event is open to anyone in the Northfield area (including Dundas, Dennison, Stanton, Randolph and Nerstrand) and is completely free.

Cold Weather is Coming - What Are Your Plans for Fall?

The kids are back in school, the leaves are starting to change, and the air has that crisp feel to it that signals the start of autumn. And in Minnesota, fall can't be enjoyed without knowing winter will soon follow!

When I first moved to Northfield with three young children, I came from a state where you could play outside almost every day of the year. There I was in a very active MOMS Club and even though the parks and pools were available to us so often, I loved being able to get together with other moms and their kids on a regular basis. As a full-time stay at home mom, it was a great way for my kids to interact with other children, and for me to get some much-needed adult conversation in!

So moving to Minnesota and wondering what I was going to do with my kids all.winter.long without us going crazy was daunting.

Luckily I was able to start a local chapter of the MOMS Club right here in Northfield (we serve families living in Northfield, Dundas, Dennison, Nerstrand, Randolph and Stanton. We have a fun group of moms and kids, some moms who work part time outside of the home and some who wear the mommy hat full time, and I love knowing that every month there will be activities planned for us to go to.

Northfield has so many incredible resources for families - ECFE classes, the Northfield Arts Guild, sports, parks, and more. But what is great about the MOMS Club is it's something you can do in addition to the sports and classes and activities. And you and your kids make lasting friendships with other moms and children from seeing each other other and having fun week to week. You can go to one event each month, or you can go to all of the events - you aren't obligated to go to a certain number of activities at all. All of our weekly activities are planned during the day, Monday through Friday, except for the moms-only or entire-family events.

So if you'd like to get together with other families with babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers or school-aged kids and you're trying to figure out how to keep not just the kids entertained but YOU, as well (because let me tell you, one of my favorite things about the MOMS Club is the Moms' Nights Out we plan each month - it's a guaranteed night out with just my friends!), contact us at northfieldmomsclub@gmail.com to find out when we're having our next meeting or public event and see what we're all about!

Machelle Kendrick from "Girlfriends" magazine and Lisa Peterson of Northfield Lines will be speaking about the importance of girlfriends in your life. There will also be a drawing for prizes!

The MOMS Club of Northfield, MN is a non-profit, secular organization supporting full time or part time at-home mothers (all mothers are welcome, but our events are held on weekdays).

Winter Events and January Meeting

We've been busy at the MOMS Club of Northfield, MN!

In November we had three play dates, MOMS Night Out at Chapati, Lunch Bunch at Hogan Brothers, and several of us participated in the YMCA's Wiggles & Giggles program.

For December we've had a cookie exchange for MOMS Night Out, there will be a cookie decorating party for the kids, two play dates, and Lunch Bunch at Perkins.

Coming up in January we're going to have another MOMS Night Out in Northfield, a craft day, a play date at the new Burnsville Center play area, Lunch Bunch at Beef O'Brady's, and at least two play dates.

Thanks to our current members who joined our meeting today, and to the moms who came to learn more about the MOMS Club of Northfield. We hope to see you at another event soon.

Some public events for October will be two park days and a trip to a local pumpkin patch, and our next business meeting is November 5. If you'd like to be invited, please send an e-mail to northfieldmomsclub@gmail.com with your name and the names and ages of your child(ren).

To give you an idea of what our calendar looks like for members, this is what we did in September: we had a playgroup at a member's house, we had a park day, we had lunch bunch at China Buffet, several moms attended MOMS Night Out at The Ole Cafe, and we took a trip to Fireside Orchard, where we took a tour and were treated to fresh doughnuts and just-off-the-tree apples.

MOMS Club of Northfield, MN will host its first event, an open house, at the end of July. Please send an e-mail to northfieldmomsclub@gmail.com for the specific date and time.

International MOMS Club was founded 25 years ago to provide support to mothers who stay home with their children during the week full time or part time, because being a mom shouldn’t be isolating. MOMS Club of Northfield joins more than 2,000 chapters across the country and internationally in planning day activities for mothers and their children, such as playgroups, craft days, outings to zoos and parks and more. Additional support for the mothers comes in monthly MOMS Night Out gatherings, volunteers who provide meals to members with new children, and simply the chance to spend time with other moms on a regular basis.

MOMS Club of Northfield is open to at-home mothers who live in Northfield, Dennison, Dundas, Nerstrand, Randolph and Stanton. The open house will provide prospective members with the chance to meet other at-home families and the opportunity to lean more about the organization. As with all MOMS Club events, children are welcome!
